Fishing

So you want to try your hand at fishing? First thing to do is go and talk to a Fishing Guild Member in any town (they are usually in the grocery store). Train your Fishing Skill, Fishing Expertise, Pumping, and Reeling skills. You will need to pay adena for this.

These skills need to stay within 3 levels of each other, so train them up evenly. The higher your skills, the higher the level fish you can catch. Don't train it up too high at first because the degree of difficulty goes up as well.

Activate the Fishing Shots quest from him while you are there as well. You will need these. The shots (Fss) come in grades, so make sure you get the grade that matches your grade fishing pole.

1 sweet fluid =
66No Grade Fish Shot
40D Grade Fish Shot
28C Grade Fish Shot
8B Grade Fish Shot
5A Grade Fish Shot
4S Grade Fish Shot

Do the Red Eye Invader Quest for a fishing pole or buy a Fishing Pole. They come in grades just like the weapons. Don't buy one that is too high for your level. The better the pole, the better the fish you can catch. They are a little expensive but get the best one you can afford.

  Grade Type Price

D Albatross rod 135,000a
C Pelican rod 500,000a
B Kingfisher rod 1,500,000a
A Cygnus pole 5,000,000a
S Triton pole 12,500,000a

Buy Lures - They come in 3 colors: yellow, green and purple and 4 flavors: beginner, regular (for day fishing), luminious (for night fishing) and prize winning lures. The colors catch different types of fish. The prize winning lures supposedly raise your chances to catch fish that qualify for the Fishing King Tournament.

The beginner lures will tell you when to pump and reel but I find them too distracting and recommend you learn to fish without them as the fish they catch are not regular fish. Typically I just buy like 100 regular and/or luminous of each color.

OK time to start fishing! Find a spot where the water is deep enough that you would normally swim if you went in. Stand next to it and equip your pole and your lures.

I recommend setting up a hotbar just for fishing. Have your Fish Shots, Fishing skill, Pumping skill, Reeling Skill, and your lures on it. I also recommend putting your fishing pole and weapon on your hotbar too because you will get attacked by water monsters and fighting with a fishing pole doesn't work real well. Here is an example of how my hotbar is set up

Click Fishing on your hotbar and your toon will cast. When the fish bites, you will see that it has a blue health bar.

The health bar can be doing 2 things.. it can either stay the same or it can be going up. This corresponds to the 2 actions - Pumping and Reeling.

If the health bar is staying the same you need to click Pumping and if the health bar is going up, you need to click Reeling. If you use the right skill, the fish will lose a chunk of health. If you click the wrong skill, the fish will gain some health. Now fish are on a timer, so if you don't catch it before the timer hits 0, it will get away.

When night fishing and using luminious bait sometimes the health bar will change from blue to red.

When the health bar shows as red the pumping and reeling actions must be reversed! You will reel when the health bar is the same and pump if it is going up.

You use the fishing shots before you hit the pumping or reeling skill. The shots make you do double damage to the fishes life bar. If you click the wrong skill and have used a fish shot, it will gain double life back so take a second before you click your pumping or reeling skill to watch the health bar so you can make sure if it is staying the same or going up.

Tip: If the fish arent biting try moving and fishing in a different spot.

OK so now you got some fish and maybe some treasure chests..now what? You can double click on them in your inventory, and they will open up and give you items. It's a pretty wide range of stuff, like common craft recipes, fish oil, fish scales, fish gems, hair accessory parts etc.

Things you can do with the items.
1. Sell them to other players for adena

2. Use the items to craft common craft items like fashion accessories, dyes and potions. You can purchase the common craft recipes listed below right from the fishing Guild Memeber.

Flamers please note, this guide is a compilation of information from a variety of sources. I'm not jacking crap and then trying to take credit - just sharing helpful info. Special kudos to Plechan.
