Seven Signs
Ok the seven signs is just confusing as hell for new players. If you want real in-depth overview of this please refer to these Lineage 2 offical site pages: Seven Signs Info | Rift info
Basically it boils down to this, by joining seven signs you can:
Hunt in the catacombs and necropolis. Catacombs and necropolis are dungeons. They have monster that have 4x more hp as normal field mobs but they are also worth substantially more experience. These are good areas for parties.
Collect seal stones which convert into ancient adena Ancient Adena is used to purchase special items from the Merchant of Mammon and Dawn/Dusk Priests. It is also used to upgrade/unseal items at the Blacksmith of Mammon.
 Participate in Festivals
Festivals last 18 minutes, you go in and kill mobs to collect blood of sacrifice. You will need at least 5 people in your party to participate.
Collect dimensional fragments These are used to open "rifts". Basically a rift is an instanced dungeon that lasts 40 minutes. Your party will be moved between rooms every 5 minutes. The mobs inside give good spoils and you can level special ability crystals to 13 the on the Unlimited level rift raidboss.
Collect blank scrolls. Blank Scrolls are used at the Merchant of Mammon along with ancient adena to purchase Enchant Armor and Enchant Weapon scrolls.

During Competition Week
1. Sign up through the Priests of Dawn or Dusk in each village during the competition period. You need to also choose a cabal (most choose Avarice/Gnosis as these lets you see the mammons if your side wins). I suggest buying a record of the seven signs as well, so you can keep track of what week it is.
If you are under 20 and havent completed your first class change you cannot sign up.
After level 40 if you dont own a castle and want to sign up for Dawn you will need to pay 50,000a or use a Lord of Manor Certificate (other players sell these in town)
2. Once you are signed up head to an appropriate level catacomb or necropolis. Talk to the gatekeeper Ziggurat there and start his quest to collect scrolls of ancient magic as well. These show up in your quest inventory. (Talking to the gatekeeper again turns them into blank scrolls).
Now go speak with the Rift Doorman statue that is inside the corner of the lobby and accept his quest. This will allow you to collect the dimensional fragments needed to enter "rifts".
3. Go inside and hunt the mobs. Lilims, Nephilims, Liliths, and Gigants will drop red green and blue stones. Save these in your inventory until next week (or if your server has an active seven signs competition, you can entrust them to your sides Priest. This will help your side win)
4.You can do festivals during this week as well. There are 5 grades of competition: Below 32 | Below 43 | Below 54 | Below 65 | No Limit. The party leader will need to pay an entry fee with seal stones. The party with the highest score wins rep points for their clan, ancient adena and points toward your cabal winning. You can repeat the festival as many times as you wish to try for a higher score.
During Seal Validation Week
If you signed up for the side that won you will be able to enter the catacombs and necropolis for another week. You can also turn your seal stones into ancient adena at the Dawn/Dusk Priest now if you didn't entrust them for points during the competition week. If you did entrust your seal stones, talk to the Priest and choose the Reward option to obtain your ancient adena.
